Project Overview

The overall role of this design project is to serve as a low scale simulation of Medical Robotics for minimally invasive surgeries:

We will design and build a system that allows a small spherical magnet to travel a set trajectory through a plate of agarose gel. This is done by taking advantage of the attraction forces between the external Nd-Fe-B magnet and the internal gel magnet. We will also attach a programmed motor to rotate the dish, creating an orbit-like trajectory:

To control deviations from the prescribed trajectory, a web-cam is used for tracking and collecting information the trajectory of the magnet. The trajectory data will also be recorded to for analysis and will help to further accurize necessary trajectory adjustments.

Throughout this project we will learn and further develop our methods of mechanical and electrical design as well as system integration. For more information, click here.
